Wilmington, NC resident Thea Nunez, an RN at NHRMC, is currently training for the longest trek of her life. The 36-year-old mother of two, diagnosed with T1D at age 6, will attempt to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with several other T1D’s from around the world on June 14th to raise funds for JDRF. Mount Kilamanjaro in Tanzania is the highest freestanding mountain in the world at 19,341 ft above sea level. The hike up and back will take 7 days. All of us here at JDRF Coastal Carolina wish her all the best. Please visit Thea’s Facebook page “Thea’s Climb to the Top for Diabetes” (www.facebook.com/climbtothetopfordiabetes) to keep track of her journey.
